The group:

Our group, having discharged the greater duty of delivering the lovely Asako Ryoko to Pale Oak Castle (L5R flyleaf map P8) now leaves the Phoenix lands and travels to the nearest Dragon Shugenja Temple, which is oddly enough, in Nanashi Mura; No Name Village (L5R flyleaf map D13) which the PCs passed by earlier. The Dragons intend to deliver the head of the dishonored shugena Tonbo Uiski to a temple there, now that their yojimbo duties are completed. The trip is a wet, long walk but the samurai know that a wet spring will bring a good harvest, come fall.

No Name Village (Nanashi Mura) is actually more town sized and is rather unique in that it is administered mainly by ronin.

“We will resume in the AM of the day the Lord is supposed to meet with the Yakuza Red Fox kidnapper/blackmailers.”

Ha, ha. No. Instead our intrepid adventurers decide to shake down the Drunken Phoenix after midnight, by the clever ploy of just walking in and killing the heimen bouncers there. Oh and the Crane finds a helpful loitering peasant who is quite willing to toss some smoke pots into the front yard of the neighboring house. After the Crane gives him the smoke pots, the peasant eagerly lopes off with them in hand. This is not considered strange by the cultured Crane because I have no idea why.

The PCs are invited by an Otomo to the wedding of an Ikeda to an Otomo bride, in Shira Matsu; a Lion fortress city. The Otomo connection is important to the Ikedas, yet still a minor affair as weddings go. The Lions are rolling out the red carpet.

GM note: The invite was the result of the PCs helping a certain Otomo recover his son and more importantly take his reputation out of danger (abetted by a useful and friendly Scorpion!).

He is going to be purifying, blessing and warding the house in preparation for the wedding. The Tamori offers to help, as shugenja appear to be thin on the ground around these parts. They are accompanied by a commoner known as Tama, a long time retainer to the household.

During the CB festivities, the Wasp spots a peasant staring at them. A brief chase corners him and the PCs find out that “everyone” knows the Ikeda house is haunted, says Hokui the laborer. There is a bad spirit that shows up there on festival days, and the place is terrifying.

Okaay. The next evening at Ikeda’s is much quieter, with a poetry contest. The hosts retire early, tomorrow is the big day. At one point one of the male samurai (Mirumoto Hideo) is found in the garden, quietly talking to the absolutely ravishing Crane Doji Inoe.

So this is an Oni...

After leaving the wedding, the PCs travel to the Kitsu Tombs, there to make nice with any potential Kitsune spirits at the temple there. Being they are guests, and even better non-Lion Clan, a certain Matsu Chokaku decides to meet with them in the temple they visit.

Matsu Chokaku appears to be a retired Lion officer of some girth and size, with a shocking great mane of golden colored hair. He is bluff, honorable seeming and complimentary as he sits in an alcove off of the main Temple garden. He is casually dressed in a simple cotton shift and some wood clogs.

Using his advantages of birth, he secures a fast boat and crew and departs downriver. He is headed for the Wall, and will not be deterred! Uh oh.
